अधुना - २! AdhunA - 2!

What I find humongously humorous is that when on Dias, in Articles, or in a chit-chat, et al., grand expert homo sapiens articulate in Shashi Tharoor-style English about Patience in children.
I call it- E R V S bouquet!
Empty Rhetoric Virtue Signalling.

AdhunA Part-2

Patience in children! There are as many ways to develop patience as there are minds. So…

We, the elders, parents, guardians, and well-wishers, may inculcate the young souls by first taking the word routine out and subtly replacing it with Ritual.

So, it's a daily ritual. Not a daily routine. What a fantastic positive message dropped in the heart, which immediately packages and ‘express-couriers it through the Vagus Nerve to inform the neurons in the Brain. Wao RITUAL, संस्कार… What a soothing term! The Heart and the Brain are now in tandem.

You see, a kid learns routine as an “Ok, a daily task.” Very normal, very generic. But the moment we say Ritual, संस्कार (Sanskar), it is something we train the Heart-n-Brain to do the activity with care and meaning, and respect. It gives them a purpose to the ordinary, mundane task, a special identity to be accomplished with solemnity! Like brushing teeth, like swishing water with all its importance… Sweet nuggets of health and hygiene are added to their mind in small doses, like homeopathic medication. Slowly and steadily, it will build up in their character. So now every task is a संस्कार!

It's not a 2-minute noodles. It’s what the parents, elders, guardians (even if reluctantly) gear up their own PATIENCE, it’s achievable! Morning shows the day😊

And the result will follow like an obedient German Shepherd, picking up the scent and reaching the child, always.

Now that’s settled. Next is something we all know. But for Indians, since it is part of our ancient civilization, we horribly sneeze on those as if a gust pushed pepper through our nose.

Talking about the nose, let’s start with it.

yoga

*Pranayama Yoga (योग). What a gem from the bouquet of universal awareness and consciousness, and wellness. YIPPEE!
Prana, which is our vital life force, and Yama / Ayama, is the control of expansion. Prana is represented by our breathing, and so we may conclude that Pranayama is how we extend and expand our vital life energy through as they say in medical science, Respiration. 😊

How many of us actually even cared to think about it while growing up? Been told about it? We just took it as one of those auto-generated activities that tells us, “By Jove, we inhale and exhale, so we are alive”.

But as we deep dive, we tend to find the hidden pearls of knowledge and the quiet mysteries.

The art of controlled breathing through Puraka, deep inhalation. Then Kumbhaka, breath retention, and Rechaka, controlled exhalation.

Look at the benefits of this (even the Diwali Amazon bonanza cannot compete with it).
To start with, studies say:

  • It improves our Lung function. It augments its capacity and efficiency
  • Enhance Focus, as it helps to improve concentration and mental clarity
  • It balances the autonomic nervous system, and to put it simply, it counters stress and anxiety by reducing the release of stress hormones, lowering heart rate and blood pressure, and thus fostering a sense of calm and relaxation

And many more such benefits by practising different ways of *Pranayama Yoga (योग). But of course, it *should be done under the strict guidance of a certified teacher.

Now that I have stretched beyond 500 words and am already trying your patience, so let me conclude.

For us, the elders, every nanosecond we need to remember that Patience is structured, a defined path, and not an endless journey. What I meant by it is that waiting without a framework is torture for the kids. So, we structure the wait through ritual, game, or a story (kids love it more than anything else), then Patience is empowering.
